Notable Researchers to Teach Doctors Enrolled in DICCP Program How to Translate Evidence into Chiropractic Practice

Two well-known chiropractic researchers, Michael Schneider, DC, PhD and Cheryl Hawk, DC, PhD have joined the faculty of the DICCP program administered by the ICA Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics. The DICCP is the board certified postgraduate credential in pediatrics recognized by both the ICA and ACA.  "The program has always had a research module," said Dr. Peter Fysh, chair of the Education Committee with oversight over the DICCP syllabus, "but we felt that DICCPs should not only write papers, but they should be able to critically review the  scientific literature, know how to apply (or not) the research to clinical practice and contribute to the evidence, We are very pleased to have Dr. Schneider and Dr. Hawk come on board as they are both internationally recognized as chiropractic researchers, have the teaching background and are willing to teach our diplomates so they have a better understanding about research and are motivated to contribute to the evidence."

Dr. Michael Schneider is widely published in peer-reviewed journals and has also authored and co-authored different publications and chapters in books.  A graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic he received his PhD in Rehabiliation Science from the University of Pittsburg in 2008.  Dr. Schneider is Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburg's School of Health and Rehabiliation Services and on staff at UPMC Shadyside Center for Integrative Medicine. He is currently an investigator for two NIH research studies.

Dr. Cheryl Hawk has authored more than 75 papers and was named "Researcher of the Year" by ACA in 2003 and the FCER in 2005.  She graduated from National College and was in full-time practice for 12 years before receiving her PhD in Preventive Medicine from the University of Iowa in 1991. Dr. Hawk has been principal investigator of several large scale research projects over the years and served in a number of key academic and administrative roles in different chiropractic institutions.

DICCPs who wish to attend the modules taught by Drs Schneider and Hawk as refreshers should contact the Council at pediatricscouncil@chiropractic.org or call 1-571-675-7554.  The modules are scheduled for February and March in 2011 at the Chicago location.  Doctors are advised to attend both modules as the one syllabus is divided into two parts.  We regret but only DICCPs or doctors enrolled in the 3-year program may attend ongoing DICCP classes.
